What does evangelism have to do with justice?

The word "evangelize" means to present the "Gospel"—the "Good News" about Jesus—to our world.

Some churches define evangelism very narrowly, limiting it to the beliefs of the individual. At Iglesia Unida we see evangelism in much broader terms. Taking as our guide the things Jesus said about what God requires of us, we define evangelism in terms of all of the needs of people as human beings, not just their spiritual needs. See chapter 25 of Mattew's Gospel, verses 31 to 46.

For this reason, in addition to preaching the message of faith, we help the poor to furnish their houses, to find adequate work, to obtain food for their children. We pray with the sick, but we also take them to the doctor when they do not have transportation. We invite our community to come to church, but we also take the church to our community.

If you want to improve the lives of those in need, and if you're willing to work in the name of Christ, call (919) 932-4818 or come visit us on Sunday at 5:00pm.

We also welcome financial contributions to offset the cost of our service to the community. Donations are tax deductible. Call the church office at (919) 932-4818.

Sometimes serving in the name of Christ requires a great investment of effort and time that may not result in more members for the church.

Maria Teresa with Aarón and his donkey in MexicoIn the picture to the right, our first pastor (María Teresa Palmer) speaks with Aarón, the brother of Carmelo fuentes, in the state of Potosí in Mexico, where she had traveled to help Carmelo’s family. Several years ago Carmelo suffered a heat stroke while working in the tomato harvest here in North Carolina. Because he did not receive adequate medical treatment, he remains unconscious even now. Evangelism includes bringing the Good News to his family, praying for them and with them and fighting for justice to be done.
